Tbilisi. The Public Defender of Georgia Addressed the Minister of Corrections with a Proposal. "The Public Defender welcomes the
initiative of the Ministry of Corrections to regulate the issue of
surveillance and control using visual or/and electronic devices in
establishments of imprisonment and deprivation of liberty. Though, he
believes that certain provisions of the above draft decree need
improvement and bringing in line with the European standards".

of the German Agency for International Cooperation.

Tbilisi. CSOs have released a statement: "On
December 12, the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Interior of
Georgia has detained the Director of the Institute for the Development of
Freedom of Information, Giorgi Kldiashvili for illegal bearing of arms. ... The
detention qualified as illegal by the court, criminal instead of administrative
liability, references by the police officers to his civil activism and other
violations in the case make us think that inadequate actions of law-enforcers
may be linked to G.Kldiashvili's active professional work and involvement in
the civil campaign", the statement says.

The Young
Lawyers' Association and the Caucasian Institute for Peace, Democracy and
Development have held meetings in Telavi and Akhaltsikhe on migration issues.
The meetings aimed to raise awareness of the youth on these issues, as well as
receiving education or finding employment abroad, and the risks of illegal
migration.
Similar
meetings will be held in other Georgian cities as well.

Tbilisi. As part of the "Open
Platform" project, the Frontline Club has hosted the screening of director
Joshua Oppenheimer's film "The Act of Killing", followed by a
discussion. The film depicts mass killings occurring in Indonesia in the 1960s.
The film has scooped up to forty awards. In 2014 it was the Oscar nominee for
the best documentary.

"Article 42 of the Constitution" has hosted on December 16 the
presentation of the study "Gender Discrimination in Labor Relations".
As part of the study, partner organization Center for Social Sciences has
interviewed over 1300 employed individuals.

presentation of web page on gender equality, screening of videos and a photo
exhibition.

CSO "Ecovision" has held meetings with teachers of
the Lanchkhuti, Poti and Khobi Municipality public schools as part of the
international school project on the use of energy and resources. The
organization has informed them about the project and the opportunities for
setting up eco-clubs at schools.

topic, nominations and terms of international competition during the 2014-2015
academic year. Teachers have talked about their experience in the area of

Tbilisi. The Tbilisi Municipality City Council and the South Caucasus Regional
Bureau of the Heinrich Boll Foundation have executed Memorandum of Cooperation
on December
16.
The Memorandum aims to
develop a gender-sensitive policy of naming the streets and involve
municipalities in this campaign. It also provides that when naming the
streets/squares, the priority is given to prominent women names who had played
a key role in the country's history.

has been researching the economics of gender and the role gender
inequality plays in the work environment. In Georgia, men earn, on

children living and working in the streets and ways of their solution are
discussed through live broadcasting at Radio "Chocolate".
"Invisible Children" – is the name of the program produced by CSO
"Civil Society Development Center", with financial support of the US
Embassy.

CSO "Society and Banks" has held a meeting with the local
population on December 15 in the Batumi Civic Engagement Center, as
part of the Consultation Center.
The
meeting aims to raise finance education among the population. The audience has
received qualified advice on the banking products and procedures. After the
question-and-answer meeting, the organization's banking products expert has
provided individual consultations to those interested. The "Society and
Banks" plans to hold similar meetings in various regions of Georgia.

Georgia" has released an audio podcast of parliamentary news. Topics of
the December 15 edition include: draft 2015 state budget of Georgia;
