On January 26, 2021, at the United Nations, as part of the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), UN member states shared Georgia’s recommendations for improving the human rights situation. At the periodic review session, almost all the important topics shared by the civil society by the member states were voiced as recommendations. As part of the third cycle of the UN Universal Periodic Review, an online advocacy campaign involving NGOs was supported by UPR Info and the Open Society Georgia Foundation. The Institute for Development of Freedom of Information and the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association released a joint statement regarding the implementation of OECD-SIGMA recommendations.  “A joint project of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the European Union on Support for Improvement in Governance and Management (SIGMA) in Georgia, within the framework of the Public Administration Reform (PAR), evaluated a policy planning and coordination direction. Imereti. TI published 2019-2020 Activities of Transparency International Georgia’s Committees of Concerned Citizens in Imereti.  “Improving the system of public transport in Kutaisi, resolving the problems with a drinking water supply and outdoor lamp-posts in the villages of Tskaltubo and Tkibuli, rehabilitation and paving of roads in various municipalities – this is but a small list of implemented projects advocated by the members of Transparency International Georgia’s (TI Georgia) Committees of Concerned Citizens (CCCs) to the corresponding municipalities. Tbilisi. Civil society organizations released a special statement on the restriction of freedom of religion and a discriminatory state policy. “We, organizations representing the social platform “No to Phobia!” and the “Coalition for Equality”, consider that in recent months the situation in terms of protection of freedom of religion and belief has deteriorated sharply in Georgia. The state breaches principles of secularism and equality, violates rights of non-dominant religious groups and demonstrates unequal treatment of people of different religious faiths”, - is noted in the statement, - “in this regard, religious intolerance and violation of equality, shown against Muslim citizens in the village of Buknari in Chokhatauri Municipality, as well as a discriminatory policy of authorities, applied during the celebration of holidays by religious associations in pandemic conditions, and ignorance of anti-Semitic rhetoric, demonstrated by high hierarchs of the Orthodox Church during last period of time, are particularly alarming”. Tbilisi. CSOs published a joint statement in regard to sanctions announced against opposition parties. Non-governmental organizations express their extreme concern in regard to the initiative announced by the Government, which essentially aims at imposing sanctions on opposition parties for their protest that reflected in the rejection of mandates by opposition members of the Parliament. “Such statements once again indicate that the Government does not properly realize its responsibility in the process of resolving the current crisis, while its rhetoric is perceived as threatening opposition parties - to act in accordance with directives of the Government so as not to become victims of sanctions set by the ruling party”, - is noted in the joint statement. From March to October 2020, to prevent spread of the COVID-19 infection and mitigate impact of the pandemic, the Open Society Georgia Foundation allocated funds up to USD 1.5 million. “Support, provided to address consequences of COVID-19, covered a number of directions, including protection of rights of workers, socio-economic assistance, empowerment of health care institutions and medical staff, update of ethnic minorities, people with disabilities and population of regions, free legal and psychological services for citizens, assistance of students during the process of online learning”, - is stated in the report of the organization. The Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) release a joint statement in regard to development of policy documents on public administration. In line with expiry of the Public Administration Reform Guide and the 2019-2020 Action Plan, the administration of the Government has started working on a new strategy and action plan. The process has been initiated with engagement of representatives of civil society. The organizations appreciate the fact that engagement of civil society in the process of development of an action plan in ensured and, at the same time, emphasize necessity of addressing shortcomings related to previous strategic documents. On November 30, there was made a presentation of a new project and online platform for volunteers - www.helpinghand.ge , organized by “Helping Hand”. “The purpose of the meeting was to discuss possibilities of online volunteering in the circumstances of the pandemic and present the updated platform to the general public. The event was attended by representatives of various NGOs, teachers of civic education and citizens interested in online volunteering. After the presentation of the platform, there was held a discussion on issues related to perspectives of online volunteering and future cooperation”, - is stated on the website of the organization in a social network.
