"Signatory organizations assess the developments occurred prior to holding the "Stop Russia" rally planned by the State Chancellery on July 18 as unjustified interference in the freedom of assembly and expression. The freedom of assembly and manifestation is one of the fundamental rights in a democratic society, protected by the Constitution of Georgia and international obligations undertaken by Georgia. Contrary to these obligations, actions by the police aimed to restrain the right to peaceful assembly, to impede the enjoyment of this right, and did not serve legitimate purposes...", the released statement says.
