Conference on the Human Rights Oriented Prison Reform

Tbilisi. The Georgian Young Lawyers' Association and Article 42 of Constitution have organized a conference on December 10 as part of the project – "Advocating the Human Rights Oriented Prison Reform". Conference participants discussed topics such as an alternative monitoring mechanism, problematic issues of the Imprisonment Code of Georgia, mechanism of conditional release prior to serving the sentence, placement in penitentiary institutions, proposals promoting a fight against mistreatment, etc.The project – "Advocating the Human Rights Oriented Prison Reform" aims to carry out the advocacy campaigns and organize public discussions for making necessary amendments to the Imprisonment Code. A working group will be set up within the project framework, which will develop recommendations on amendments to the Imprisonment Code, and will prepare public statements in relation to the key gaps in the Imprisonment Code.
