GYLA evaluates competition for selection of District Election Commissions
Tbilisi. The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association observed a competition that was announced by the Central Election Commission in December 2015 to fill 193 vacant sits in 65 electoral districts.
''Observers of GYLA directly monitored voting meetings and decision-making procedures. Although the procedure of voting for candidates to membership of District Election Commissions was implemented in an open and transparent manner, which was a positive step, it should be noted that according to the results of observation the CEC decisions were taken without consideration of the issue. The procedure for selection of candidates was carried out without any discussion, exchange of views and presenting arguments among the members of the Commission'' – is stated on the web-page of the organization.
