Constitutionalists on the Ombudsman's Initiative Concerning His Wider Powers
Tbilisi. The "Georgian Young
Constitutionalists' Association" responds to the Public Defender's
initiative on his wider powers.The
Association believes that "the discussed recommendation on increasing the
powers of the Public Defender, and in particular granting him the right to
collect photo materials in the closed penitentiary institutions, should be
assessed positively. Widening of powers in this respect will ensure
transparency within the penitentiary system, and in addition, along with the
increasing level of supervision, the facts of violation of the inmates' rights
will reduce as well," says the information released by the organization.
