Tbilisi. The Human Rights Education and Monitoring
Center has released a statement on restriction of freedom of movement for the
Muslim citizens. "Recently, the Muslim population of Georgia frequently
complains about arbitrary restriction of their freedom of movement by the
authorities. ... EMC calls on the state to make official
explanations on the restriction of freedom of movement for the Muslim/Kist
citizens of Georgia; and to refer to normative basis and reasoning that could
justify interference in this right. Further, EMC urges the Ministry of Interior
to terminate and revise existing practices, and to bring its policies in
compliance with the constitutional and international standards of human rights
protection."
