General Description:
Under the general supervision of the NGO For Better
Future, the Coordinator of the Mobile American Corner in Tserovani IDP
Settlement coordinates, plans, organizes and directs the activities of the
Corner. The Corner Coordinator serves as a liaison between the Tserovani IDP
Settlement Mobile American Corner and the
U.S. embassy in Georgia, as well as local agencies, businesses, schools and
organizations with an interest in the United States. The Corner is a small,
American-style library and program center created to increase mutual
understanding between the IDP settlements and the United States by making
available information about America in a variety of formats.
The Corner offers books, CD-ROMs, videos, Internet
access, programs, and discussion groups.
Regional travel, as well as some weekend and
evening hours will be required.
When equally qualified, candidates who have
traveled to and/or studied in America (FLEX program, IVLP, Muskie) are given
preference.
Recommended Qualifications:
• Education – university degree or candidacy;
• Experience working with IDPs and/or working on
IDP issues;
• Ability to travel for work-related programs and
events (in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region)
• General knowledge of American history, values,
society, culture, education, and politics of the United States of America;
• Ability to assess community interest in American
topics;
• Ability to create, promote and evaluate programs
and events that promote the Corner and its resources;
• An "entrepreneurial spirit” that can identify and
follow up on alternate sources of financial support for the Corner in the
region;
• Ability to plan and maintain a budget;
• Ability to plan and organize speaker programs;
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in
writing, in the host-country language, and in English;
• Ability to work with youth audiences;
• Ability to prepare written reports and
correspondence and to maintain accurate records;
• Ability to prioritize work assignments;
• Ability to present information effectively to
groups of different ages and educational levels;
• Ability to respond in a timely manner to
questions from supervisors, customers, and the general public;
• Skills in computer applications, including
Internet, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word processing and
spreadsheet), and webpage design (Good typing skills are also required);
• Skills in communicating confidentially and
diplomatically with visiting speakers, university and embassy staff.
