People in Need is a Czech non-governmental organization that provides relief aid and development assistance, while working to defend human rights and democratic freedom. It is one of the largest relief and development organizations in Central/Eastern Europe and has administered projects in 37 countries over the past 20 years. People in Need has been working in Georgia since 2005 and has offices in Tbilisi and Kutaisi.
People in Need is currently planning the European Union-funded project "Enhancing Small Farmers' Cooperation and Productivity in Imereti and Racha Regions". In partnership with the leading Georgian partners, the project is planned to be implemented in Imereti and Racha regions of western Georgia. Within the framework of the project, People in Need and partners will aim to reduce rural poverty in western Georgia. Via the development of agricultural cooperatives, the project targets semi-commercial small farmers as well as agribusiness and rural entrepreneurs in order to increase their productivity and income as members of business-oriented groups such as cooperatives and associations.
People in Need is recruiting Field Coordinators to be responsible for community-level activities including mobilization, monitoring and overall supervision of cooperatives established within the project. The project is planned to begin in December 2013 and the duration is 3.5 years.
Job title: Field Coordinator
Location: Kutaisi with frequent travel throughout Imereti and Racha regions
Reporting to: Project Manager
Responsibilities:
** Responsible for field-level community mobilization activities including organization of information meetings, expert workshops, trainings and field consultations;
** Conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities, provide ongoing support to cooperatives, draft monitoring reports;
** Participate in conducting field assessments and monitoring in coordination with partners;
** Communicate regularly with project management to provide feedback on field activities, troubleshoot in the field and work closely with beneficiaries on early identification of problematic areas
** Participate in planning of the capacity building activities for project beneficiaries;
** Support the organization of demonstration model fields, farmer exchange days and work with the Agrarian Faculty at Kutaisi State University;
** Responsible for liaising with the Ministry of Agriculture's Information Consulting Center staff in target districts to ensure coordination with the Ministry's field initiatives and programmes;
** Serve as the main contact person for district-level government authorities in Imereti and Racha;
** Submit weekly reports on field activities and collect data for donor reporting and monitoring purposes;
** Maintain updated knowledge on sector specific documents, government policies, development projects of other stakeholders in the target areas
** Participate in elaboration of the project related informational materials;
** Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and personal qualities:
** University degree in Agriculture, Agro Economics, Business, Management, International Development or related studies
** 3-5 years of experience in agriculture, business and rural development, preferably experience in the community mobilization and cooperative development sector
** Experience working in communities directly with farmers and local government authorities
** Excellent communication and community mobilization skills;
** Fluency in written and spoken Georgian required, working knowledge of English preferred;
** MS Office proficiency;
** Good interpersonal and team-working skills;
** Ability to work independently and travel frequently throughout the target regions.
Hours: Full-time position starting mid-December 2013
