UNICEF Georgia seeks a freelance native English-speaking feature writer/journalist to provide the following services.
Writing of human interest/feature stories on women and children issues for UNICEF.
Editing English language texts.
Re-writing of texts/documents, if required.
UNICEF requirements for feature stories are as follows:
Feature story should be 500-1,000 words. One and a half pages (single space) word article that answers the six key questions (What? Who? When? Where? Why? How?) of journalism, tells human side of a development issue, has quotes from the people involved, includes people's names and ages, describes the situation without bogging the story down in statistics, and has UNICEF link. (Detailed guidelines will be provided by UNICEF).
UNICEF pays "on acceptance" - when an article is ready for publication - meaning that article meets UNICEF's standards of accuracy, completeness and writing style.
The candidate should follow the UNICEF style book guidelines while editing. The Style book will be provided by UNICEF to the selected candidate/s.
Candidates interested in writing/editing for UNICEF should:
** be native-language English writer;
** have excellent writing skills;
** be based in Georgia for feature stories in order to be familiar with local culture as well as with the political and economic situation of the country, the situation of children in Georgia and be able to attach country flavour to the story and make an inquiry or collect information and details while required;
** have solid experience in writing feature articles.
** for editing/writing work the candidates living outside Georgia can also be considered.
In view of this we would request interested candidates to provide us with the most recent CV, P11 Form and a motivation letter outlining the following:
** Availability and capability to perform the assignment.
** Which job are you applying for - editing, Re-writing of texts/documents, feature writing.
** time required for feature writing and for editing;
** price rates for each feature story/for editing [for the latter provide price/page (1,800 symbols/characters without spaces); rates should be indicated in GEL or USD. Payments on the territory of Georgia can be made only in local currency - GEL).
** Submit at least three published features.
UNICEF pays by bank transfer in GEL upon receipt of the final and acceptable product.
