Within the framework of the Sida funded project "Community Support to Children and Youth in Abkhazia", UNICEF is working in returnee and remote rural areas of the Abkhazia region to ensure access of children and women to basic social services. These services are provided in partnership with World Vision International (WVI) and local NGOs through 48 Social Community Centers (SCCs) established in schools of local communities throughout the Abkhazia region. Around these SCCs local partnerships have developed linking community members who act as facilitators of different directions of the SCCs' work with networks of professionals and community based organizations, including local NGOs. To further strengthen and sustain the knowledge and skills of both social services providers and local civil society organizations, UNICEF and WVI have been engaging the external expertise for trainings and other capacity building activities. During the 2014, the aim of the project is to strengthen the focus of the SCCs on child protection issues.
