Tbilisi. On March 21 the world celebrates the World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). The main aim of the foundation of the Day by the UN General Assembly is to raise public awareness of Down syndrome. The UN resolution calls on all States to promote public awareness about people with Down syndrome, including at the family level.
''It is necessary each member of the community to understand his/her role and responsibilities in terms of building inclusive environment for people with Down syndrome, protection of their dignity and rights. The degree of responsibility is especially high for government officials, politicians and other public activists'', is noted in the statement.
