Tbilisi. The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) prepared a newsletter - Monitoring of the 2018 presidential elections.
GYLA started monitoring the 2018 presidential pre-elections on August 1 through its central and regional offices. Observation was carried out as in Tbilisi, as well as in Adjara, Guria, Samegrelo, Zemo Svaneti, Imereti, Racha, Lechkhumi, Shida and Kvemo Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kakheti.
"The purpose of the monitoring is to facilitate fair and transparent election processes, ensure that representatives of the election administration, election subjects and public officials adhere to election legislation and internationally established democratic standards. Besides, to inform Georgian citizens and international community about violations and trends related to pre-election processes of the 2018 presidential elections, draw attention on legislative and practical shortcomings. As well as to identify problems in election legislation and advocate for relevant legislative amendments after the elections are over” – is stated in the introduction to the document.
