Translating Healthcare Research Into Practice Workshop
Call for Applications
Background:
New York University was awarded a grant from the United States
Department of State to build evidence-based policy and practice capacity
in the Republic of Georgia among healthcare managers, policy analysts,
policy makers, public health practitioners, health insurance
agents/planners, and healthcare providers working in the public and
private sector, Ministry of Labor, Health & Social Affairs, Ministry
of Finance, health care policy think tanks, and civil society
organizations. The grant program, titled the Georgian Research Training
Program, is a collaborative research training program between the health
professions schools at New York University (NYU) and three Georgian
universities over a period of two years. The three Georgian universities
include the Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi State Medical University,
and the University of Georgia.
Translating Research Into Practice (TRIP): Health Research Training Program
New York University will host two 5-day workshops for healthcare
professionals focused on Evidence-Based Practice. The first workshop
will be held in Kutaisi from July 8-12, 2013 and the second will be held
in Tbilisi from July 15-19, 2013. NYU faculty will teach the courses.
The training program in Kutaisi will be held in collaboration with the
USAID Georgia Health Care Improvement Project. Course topics include
principles of research & evidence-based practice, health research
designs, review of clinical practice guidelines, literature review, and
critical thinking & research critique. The course will end with the
development of a poster presentation by groups of participants working
as teams on clinical topics of interest.
Workshop participants will develop skills that help them to:
- Read and evaluate health research;
- Formulate a clinical research question;
- Understand the sources of clinical evidence;
- Conduct evidence search in applicable databases;
- Apply research to clinical practice situations;
- Conduct mini-literature reviews with a poster session by the end of the week; and
- Develop evidence-based practice projects that can facilitate
organizational change aimed at improving patient care outcomes and
efficiency.
Qualified applicants will:
- Hold one or more of the following degrees: nursing, medicine, public health, public policy or related field.
- Have at least 3 years of work experience in their professional role.
- Demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, and understand
English. (Note: for the Kutaisi workshop, translation assistance will be
provided for participants with limited English skills).
