Peace Corps Georgia is pleased to announce a call for applications from motivated organizations to participate in the Peace Corps' Response Program by requesting a Peace Corps Response Volunteer.

What is the Peace Corps?

Peace Corps is a non-political, non-religious, non-profit agency of the United States government that was established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. Peace Corps is a people-to-people organization that relies on the dedication and commitment of qualified American women and men who contribute to the social, economic and human development of countries requesting assistance. Its mission is to promote world peace and friendship, through the productive exchange of knowledge and expertise between Peace Corps Volunteers and local communities. Peace Corps Volunteers fulfill three fundamental goals:

** Providing trained men and women who contribute to the social and economic development of interested countries;

** Promoting a better understanding of the American people on the part of Georgians;

** Strengthening Americans' understanding about Georgia and its people.

What is the Peace Corps Response Program?

The Response Program is Peace Corps' short term assistance program. The program provides American Volunteers to support governmental and nongovernmental organizations, as well as educational institutions in the process of developing their organizational and human capacity. The length that a Volunteer may work with an organization varies from three to twelve months depending on the needs of the organization.

Who are Response Program Volunteers?

Response Program Volunteers are Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, who have served in other developing countries for two years and have gained extensive experience in various fields. They are skilled volunteers and can provide specialized knowledge to your organization, based on your needs.

How Response Program Volunteers can help your organization?

Response Program Volunteers have served at different organizations in Georgia, such as ministries, international organizations, local and regional NGOs, universities, and others. They have been assisting Georgian counterparts in designing policies and strategies in environmental education, improving standards of care, developing grant proposals, designing capacity development trainings, improving organizational management, curriculum development, teaching English and others.

What you need to do in order to request and host a Response Program Volunteer?

** Organizations are required to find appropriate housing for Volunteers and submit three potential host families.

** Organizations are required to work closely with a Volunteer. Peace Corps' goal is to ensure capacity development and sustainability of the projects at the organizations. Therefore, close collaboration with a local staff member -"counterpart" is crucial.

** Organizations are required to prepare a workplace for a Volunteer.

** Organizations are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Peace Corps.

What are the stages in the Response Program application process?

** Read carefully the "Guidelines for Partnering Organizations" and pay particular attention to Peace Corps' selection criteria.

** Stage One: Fill out the Peace Corps Response Program Application Form and submit it by November 18.

** Stage Two: Develop a Peace Corps Project Description, which describes organization's needs, qualification requirements, working conditions and submit it by the set deadline.

** Stage Three: Identify and submit three host Families that comply with Peace Corps Criteria.

** Submit one host family option along with the application form.

** Submit additional two host families within two months after completing the second stage of the application process and submitting project descriptions.

** Mtskheta-Mtianeti

** Kvemo Kartli

** Shida Kartli (Khashuri, Gori, Kaspi, Kareli)

** Samtshe-Javakheti

** Ajara

** Guria

** Imereti

** Samegrelo (Abasha, Martvili, Senaki, Khobi)

** Racha-Lechkhumi (Ambrolauri, Oni, and Tsageri)
