Peace Corps initiated its program in Georgia in 2001 with 21 Volunteers working in secondary education English teaching assignments. Since that time, over 500 Volunteers have served in Georgia, exchanging skills with their counterparts, supervisors and community members; sharing American culture; and taking a part of Georgian culture back home to the United States. The fourteenth group of Volunteers will arrive in April 2014. All volunteers will complete a 12 week intensive training course, which is called Pre-Service Training (PST).
Peace Corps Georgia is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Homestay Assistant.
Duty Station: Khashuri
Deadline: February 3, 2014
Dates of contract: March 1 - July 21, 2014.
Actual number of workdays within contract period will not exceed 50. However, the most active period will be in March and April.
Position summary:
The Homestay Assistant (HA) will work under the guidance of Homestay Coordinator and under the supervision of the Training Director. S/he will be responsible for the promotion and implementation of the homestay program that is an integral component of Pre-Service Training (PST). S/he will secure PST host families in all seven villages for Trainees and LCFs, which meet PC host family standards and requirements. S/he will plan the program and direct the search, interviews and final selection of host families for trainees and LCFs. The position will require extensive travel in Khashuri and surrounding villages.
Major duties and responsibilities:
** Undergo training in elements and operations of the position
** Coordinate with the Host Family Coordinator at all stages of the process
** Outreach and coordinate with school directors and other key community members about potential host families
** Conduct community meetings to inform potential families of program, obligations, compensation, expectations and other details.
** Contact potential host families on the phone and interview them using the PC host family phone screening and interview questionnaire
** Plan, arrange and perform visits to all potential host families (no less than seven per cluster). Complete the host family interview and survey form, ensuring that families meet established criteria;
** Select most appropriate host families, identify and document follow-ups, and work with host families to ensure all requirements are met before trainees arrival
** Assist in placing/assigning Trainees and LCFs (Community Liaisons) in/to the families
** Provide information to the LCFs about the host families.
** Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Training Director.
** Make recommendations to match trainees and host families considering trainee preferences, requirements and needs
** Ensure that host families and Trainees clearly understand their roles and responsibilities;
** Submit regular updates and weekly reports to the Training Director and Homestay Coordinator on the development of the program preparation throughout the contracting period;
** Attend staff and other meetings as required
** Maintain accurate and complete records of host families and submit periodic and final reports
** Upon completion of the contract, submit complete binder with all relevant information to the Homestay Coordinator both electronically and hard copy.
Required qualifications:
** Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
** Fluency in English and Georgian (spoken and written)
** Organizational skills
** Time management skills
** Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
** Teamwork skills
** Ability to work in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
** Flexible, positive attitude, ability to work independently, ability to meet deadlines and multi task
** Willing and ability to travel frequently within the area of PST (list clusters).
Desired qualifications:
** Familiarity with local area, customs, and culture
** Some experience with American culture
** Based in Khashuri.
