Peace Corps launched its program in Georgia in 2001 with 21 Volunteers working in secondary education English teaching assignments. Since that time, over 500 Volunteers have served in Georgia, exchanging skills with their counterparts, supervisors and community members; sharing American culture; and taking a part of Georgian culture back home to the United States. The fourteenth group of Volunteers will arrive in April 2014. All volunteers will complete a 12 week intensive training course, which is called Pre-Service Training (PST).
Peace Corps Georgia is seeking qualified applicants for the position of English Language Teacher Trainer (2 positions).
Duty Station: Khashuri.
Deadline: February 3, 2014.
Dates of contract: March 24 - July 21, 2014
March 24 - April 17 - Tbilisi
April 22 - July 21 - Khashuri
The English Language Teacher Trainer will work under supervision of the Training Director and in coordination with Education Program Managers and Director of Programming and Training. S/he will be responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating of education technical training component of the 12 week Pre-Service Training (PST) for Peace Corps trainees.
This position will require extensive travel among training clusters and the main training site.
Duties and responsibilities:
**Attends and participates in all pre-PST planning meetings and activities including involvement in and facilitation of sessions in the all-staff training of trainers (TOT) workshop.
**Plans and develops, in collaboration with the training director and Education Program Managers, a training program which incorporates the Peace Corps philosophy for development.
** Reviews relevant teacher training materials including written training sessions, prepares trainees' materials, handouts, visual aids, etc. Designs more suitable materials when existing ones do not meet the needs of the training program, compiles and documents all training materials weekly. Enriches session designs with Georgia specific information and practices and aligns it with Georgian national curriculum and textbooks.
** Facilitates technical (teacher training) sessions based on training designs and project competencies.
** Conducts regular evaluation of the technical training and redesigns sessions as necessary to ensure its relevance, and provides that information to the Training Director.
** Invites guest speakers, coordinates subject matter experts and all in-country Resource Volunteers, organizes field trips, obtains and/or develops resource materials.
** Acts as a liaison and coordinates activities and events between Peace Corps and public schools in training villages.
** Develops and implements evaluation tools designed to monitor trainee performance and assesses the overall technical training component; provides regular and on-going feedback to Trainees on their performance; develops and administers mid-term and final assessment of Trainees.
** Plans and organizes the practicum (practice teaching) schedules, lesson planning meetings and logistical aspects. Observes practicum, reviews lesson plans and issues recommendations, based on observations and other assessment tools.
** Prepares and submits electronic reports following an established format to the Training Director.
**Acts as a resource person on all aspects of technical training and on cross-cultural issues. Addresses cultural, language, and social issues regarding trainees' concerns and adjustment efforts to the local environment.
**Is a model of cultural integration, and is respectful of local customs by representing Peace Corps in a positive manner on all occasions, and respecting the productive relationship already established by post and its staff.
**Works as a member of a team willing to work long hours while maintaining a positive, flexible and constructive attitude and by maintaining a high level of motivation, seriousness, and belief in Peace Corps' mission statement.
**Performs other duties as required by the director of programming and training director.
Required qualifications and abilities:
**University degree (preferably in English, pedagogy or education);
**At least two-year experience in working as a trainer;
**Demonstrated presentation and training skills - the ability to make presentations professionally in front of a group and facilitate sessions using diverse training techniques;
**Good understanding of education system structure and on-going reforms in Georgia;
**More than three years of classroom teaching experience;
**Fluency in written and spoken English and Georgian;
**Good organizational and logistical skills;
**Ability to work in cross-cultural teams, including trainees and staff.
Desired qualifications and abilities:
**Knowledge of community-based training approaches and designs;
**Teachers' trainer experience is an advantage;
**Knowledgeable about community assessment tools, designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of community projects;
**Knowledge of adult learning principles;
**Prior experience working with Americans and/or experience living abroad;
** Prior experience in training in youth development, gender and/or technology in the classroom.
Further information:
**Note that only short listed candidates will be invited to the interview. Interviews will be held in March.
**Staff must live full-time in the training sites for a period of 11 weeks and attend orientation training which will be held in Tbilisi.
