Job Title:National Consultant, Agronomist - Seed Specialist

Title:REU Plant Production and Protection Officer
Under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Georgia, the direct supervision and technical guidance from the AGPM and FAO/REU Plant Production and Protection Officer and the operational guidance of the Field Programme Officer, REU, in close collaboration with the national project staff and the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Consultant will be responsible for the following:
** Assist in organization of inception workshop and preparation of work plan.
** Assist in elaboration of comprehensive assessment and National Programme for Rehabilitation of Seed and Planting Materials Production Sector in the country
** Assist International Consultants and FAO Officers in carrying out their duties during their missions in the country.
** Take responsibility for day to day implementation of project activities in close collaboration with FAO Representation office and LTU of the project.
** Assist the Ministry of Agriculture in establishment of a National Project Steering Participate in the preparation of training programmes and their implementation.

** Assist in identification of a local NGO with seed sector experience for LoA
** Participate in identification of seed pilot farms in each region
** Assist in defining of wheat varieties and inputs to be provided to the seed multiplication farms.
** Monitor the growing conditions of wheat on selected farms (demonstration plots and production fields).
** Organize field days and trainings on wheat seed production, processing, storage and quality control for smallholder farms.
** Assist in development and publish practical manuals and guidelines on wheat seed crop management for farmers.
** Prepare and submit to the FAO LTO Project quarterly reports describing the activities implemented, the results achieved and the problems encountered and assist in preparation of the project final report.
** Perform other duties in the field of his/her competence if required.
** Prepare and submit end of assignment report.
Qualifications:
** University degree in agriculture.
** Minimum 5 years of working experience in seed and planting material production and extension related activities.
** Experience in implementation of projects and trainings.
** Working knowledge in English and Georgian.
Project work plan is prepared, inception workshop is organised.By end of March 2014
