Embassy of Sweden in Tbilisi is announcing new International Training Programme (ITP) "Strategies for Chemicals Management", to be held on September 15 - October 7, 2014 in Stockholm, Sweden and April 20-24, 2015 in a country in the region.
Program objectives:
The overall (long term objective) is that participating countries obtain further insight in relations between chemicals management, on the one hand and economic growth and improved health and environment, on the other. The institutional infrastructure for chemicals management should improve for more efficient chemicals management. The programme should both suit the participant's needs and contribute to poverty reduction by promoting sustainable use of chemicals.
The mid term objective (3-5) years, is that an organisational change takes place or develops further, using knowledge and tools gained from the programme. In this way, rules, regulations and institutional infrastructure can be developed for improved chemicals management on a national level.
Target group:
The target group primarily includes persons holding a position in ministries or authorities with a mandate to initiate and run processes of change according to the programme's objectives.
Candidates should have a relevant university degree in technical or natural sciences, or other relevant university education. Participation of two persons from the institution or country will be considered as an advantage.
Language requirements:
The training programme will be organized and conducted in English. Candidates from countries where English is not an official language should do a language test with an official body in the home country, if documentation supporting his/her ability can not be provided. The Swedish Embassy/Consulate in the applicant's country might recommend institutes for conducting appropriate tests.
Change project:
The application should include a focused and limited project idea relating to preventive chemicals management to be developed and implemented in the home organisation of the applicant. The change project should be focused and limited in scope (duration approximately nine months of full time or part time) and may include issues such as revising current legislation, developing a local system for inspection, developing regional training programmes or analysing stakeholder cooperation or a chemicals hazards awareness raising project for various stakeholders. It is vital that the project is fully endorsed, supported and financed by the participant's home organisation throughout the duration of the programme. The project should preferably be an integral part of the home organisation's strategic plan and a prioritised task in order to reach sustainable results.
Cost of participation:
** Covered by Sida: Programme fee, literature, board and lodging, international travel to regional seminar.
** Not covered by Sida: Project funding, personal expenses, travel arrangements to the programme venue in Sweden, visa fees, local airport taxes and departure fees.
