CARE (Co-operative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere, Inc.) in consortium with RDA and ISET is implementing the EU funded project "ENPARD-Cooperation for Rural Prosperity in Georgia". The project aims to increase the efficiency of the agricultural production and income levels of farmers by promoting the establishment of agricultural cooperatives. Through this project agricultural cooperatives from 9 municipalities in Western Georgia are receiving financial and technical support for the implementation of their business plans.
Through a multi-staged competition scheme including a capacity building cycle and the submission of a business plan by the short-listed applicants, 50 cooperatives have been selected to receive capital assets for the implementation of their business plan, along with assistance on various fields like agricultural techniques, accounting and bookkeeping, and food safety.
Most of these cooperatives are on the 2nd and 3rd year of business operation. Throughout the implementation of the business, the values on production and sales have suffered changes due to variations on factors like market price, competitors and productivity; and therefore financial projections and business plan need to be adapted to the current situation of the cooperative. Besides, and even more importantly, the businesses need to be assessed to define the improvements that will determine an increase in the profits. Reduction on the production costs, addition of value to the products, new markets, or even diversification could be some of the strategies needed by the cooperatives. CARE requires a consultancy to assist the agricultural cooperatives supported in the frame of the project with maximizing profits and upgrading business plans.

Through this assistance CARE is aiming at improving the business sustainability of agricultural cooperatives supported by the project "ENPARD-Cooperation for Rural Prosperity in Georgia". The consultant should assess the current business operation, explore together with the cooperative new business opportunities and other strategies to increase profits in the long term, and identify investment and training needs.
