Work on self-regulation mechanism of Civil Society Organizations begins

Tbilisi. Following to the existing challenges that the civil society faces today, which relates to rising public trust in the sector, demonstrating its value-based activities better, increasing accountability and transparency, the Civil Society Institute (CSI), the Civil Development Agency (CiDA), the Center for Training and Consultancy (CTC) and the Open society - Georgia Foundation (OSGF) are planning to restart working on a self-regulation document of civil society organizations.
As you know, the first document of the code of ethics of civil society was created in 2002. It aimed at regulating behavior of civil society organizations, increasing reliability of these organizations and included general principles of action of the civil sector, internal and external relations of civil society organizations, mechanisms of unification with the code, execution and accountability.
Following to the trends that are observed in a development sector today, it is important to refresh the code of ethics of civil society organizations and to consider international standards, which means broad introduction and practical use of participatory approaches and values.
Thus, the above mentioned organizations believe that in line with a new mechanism of financial transparency, which implies publicizing of finances and activities of non-governmental organizations, it is necessary to develop also a new mechanism of self-regulation, which will better demonstrate the value-based activity of the civil sector and will be directed towards improvement of public confidence.
For this purpose, these organizations undertake that the process of elaboration of the new code of ethics will be open, transparent, and that all interested civil society organizations will be able to participate in the formation of the document, in order to have a civil sector self-regulatory document created via broad participation and consensus. To ensure all this, there will be conducted working meetings with representatives of civil society organizations both in Tbilisi and in regions.
The schedule of working meetings will be known in advance and all interested civil society organizations will have an opportunity to get actively involved in elaboration of the Code of Ethics.
