Improving Enabling Environment for Civil Society Organizations in Georgia

Samtskhe-javakheti. On  July 6 Civil Society Institute (CSI) organized a workshop on improving enabling environment for CSOs. The workshop will be held within the project of "Georgian Civil Society Sustainability Initiative.”
CSI has initiated Georgia’s CSOs declaration on key principles, which was already signed by more than 230 CSOs. This declaration considers transparency and accountability as one of the main principle for Civil Society Organizations. The project "Civil Society Sustainability Initiative” envisages creating a conceptual document and a guideline on CSOs’ transparency and accountability to increase their effectiveness, sustainability and institutional development. CSI acknowledges the importance of participatory approach and aims to achieve wide consensus among CSOs through engaging local regional organizations in the process of outlining a concept and a guideline on transparency and accountability principle.
The project "Georgian Civil Society Sustainability Initiative” (2017-2020) is fully supported by the European Union and The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The project is implemented by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in cooperation with Civil Society Institute (CSI), Center for Training and Consultancy (CTC), Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia (CSRDG) and Kutaisi Education Development and Employment Center (KEDEC). It aims to improve an environment for the civil society in Georgia, by empowering civil society organizations and actors, and increasing their accountability towards citizens. As a result of the initiative, Georgian organizations will become more sustainable and benefit from diversified sources of funding.
With total budget of 5.07 Million EUR (EU contribution of 3.8 Million EUR), the project plans to implement over 110 activities focused especially on the regions of Georgia, and young people; it will award up to 80 sub-grants and engage more than 5000 civil society actors across the country.
