Tbilisi. CSOs have released a joint statement.
"We are concerned over recent gross violations of the Muslims' rights and
the state's ineffective and repressive policies, and urge the authorities to
terminate religious persecution of the Muslim community. ... We believe the
state's decision not to probe into the Mosque's historic and cultural status
pursuant to the procedure established by law and to grant to a cult building
the status of a cultural center is unjustified and grossly breaches the rights
of the Muslim community. Enforcement of these decisions through the police
force by itself is the demonstration of the state's religious
intolerance". The statement is signed by six CSOs.
