Environmental Group to Probe into the Problems of Resort Forests
Samtskhe-Javakheti.The coordination group of the Open Environmental Civic Initiative (OECI) launches the expeditions to study
the current situation in the resort forests. To this end, the regional
coordination group of Samtskhe-Javakheti has already visited Borjomi. The first
working meeting was held in borough Bakuriani, while the first field trip - in
the territory of the Tskhratskaro Pass.According
to the Samtskhe-Javakheti Coordinator of OECIKhatunaKhmaladze, the situation in
the resort forests is obviously extremely grave, demanding rapid measures to be
taken by the authorities. Yet, the specialists have to deliver the final
conclusion."Scientific
expedition will be planned in the nearest days and along with the forestry
experts will include the authorities and public, while the expedition's
conclusions and recommendations will be based on a dialogue with the
authorities. The respective questionnaire is developed, which provides for
obtaining information in relation to the problems and legislative gaps in the
management system of resort forests. We have already addressed the Agency of
Natural Resources of Georgia and the Samtskhe-Javakheti Department", –
KkhatunaKhmaladze said.The Open Environmental Civic Initiative is
implemented in 7 regions of Georgia with support of the Austrian Development
Agency.
