Tbilisi. Local observer organizations have held a press conference on June4, at which nine local observer organizations have released a joint statement. "On May 28, the Constitutional Court of Georgia has found the current rule of division of majoritarian districts in the election system as unconstitutional, which violates the principle of equality of votes"...

Because a small amount of time is left for planning-implementation of a fundamental reform before the parliamentary elections, the organizations urge the authorities "... to set up a working group as soon as possible with participation of all interested parties, in order to reach consensus for improving the election system". Further, they urge the Constitutional Commission "to immediately schedule a session over fundamental discussion of the election system issue".
