public discussion was held on January 23 in Ozurgeti in the conference hall of
the "Union of Young Teachers". The first draft of constitutional
amendments concerns the location of Georgia's legislative body, while the
second draft - powers of the President.At the meeting, members of the
all-public examination and organizational commission from the parliamentary
majority, opposition factions and NGOs have presented to the audience draft
constitutional amendments and expressed their opinions on them. Citizens and
representatives of NGOs, media and political parties have attended the meeting.Meetings on the proposed
constitutional amendments were already held in Zugdidi, Kutaisi and Tbilisi. Next
meetings will be held in the following cities: Batumi (January 23), Gori
(January 24), Rustavi (January 25), Telavi (January 25) and Akhaltsikhe
(January 26).The process of all-public
examination of constitutional amendments is organized by the National
Democratic Institute (NDI).
