Samegrelo. Public Defender of Georgia Ucha Nanuashvili has met with the
Zugdidi-based CSOs and mass media representatives on January 23 in the Zugdidi
Civic Engagement Center. At the meeting, the Ombudsman talked about the issues
characteristic and of concern to the region and noted that the Ombudsman's Office
requires decentralization.
According to the Public Defender, the work of one representative of
their Office in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region is not enough and for this
reason they are considering to increase the staff and to make their employees
be more actively involved in the pending cases.
"We meet with various international organizations to expand the
scope of our activities, increase the staff, and also to change the mode of
working. We would like to have the agency decentralized and the local representatives
to start working on individual cases at their own initiative, but in agreement
with the central office," – Ucha Nanuashvili said.
