Samegrelo. On 4 February, 2013 the USAID Program GLOWS/INRMW-Georgia organized Bird Watching and Banding field expedition and practical
training on the coastline of the Paliastomi Lake, Kolkheti National Park for
the students of ecoclubs supported by the INRMW-Georgia.
The event dedicated to the 2nd of February, the Word Wetlands Day was
welcomed by Mr. Charles F. Vetter Economic Officer of the US Embassy, Ms. Jill
Kelley Director of the Environment and Energy Office, USAID and the INRMW team.
The educational expedition for the EcoClubs students was
organized with the support of the Ministry of Environment Protection and the
Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia, and in close cooperation with
ornithologists from Ilia State University.
It is
the first time in Georgia that youngsters from public schools participated in a
Bird Watching and Banding expedition. Twenty-four students from 8 Public
Schools of Senaki and Khobi municipalities benefited from the event through
gaining theoretical knowledge and practical experience in bird observation.
