Tbilisi.On January 31, the Civil
Society Institute has met with the welfare organizations. The meeting was held
as part of the Policy, Advocacy and Civil Society Development in Georgia
Program (G-PAC).The meeting participants have discussed
legal issues that undermine the activities of welfare organizations, including
the problems linked to the Tax Code such as the specifics of taxation of
not-for-profit (non-commercial) legal entities, tax benefits for charitable
legal and physical persons, delimitation of economic activities and
tax-exempted incomes, etc. In addition, the meeting participants have
identified the need to revise the Law on the Grants, correct the definitions
therein, and define several terms in the Civil Code.Welfare organizations have reported on
additional problems, elaborated possible ways of their solution and expressed
the desire to actively cooperate with the Civil Society Institute to solve
these issues.
