Address: “Reducing the number of self-governing cities… will be a step back”

120 non-governmental and media organizations address a joint statement to the Chairman of the Parliament and the Prime Minister for 7 cities self-governing status of the possible cancellation. It is noted in the statement that "....reducing the number of self-governing cities will certainly be a step back as for a self-government reform, as well as for development of the country, in general. More importantly, this step will put a gap between population and the government, stop ongoing projects and reduce the standard of a local democracy.
Based on all the above, we consider that it is completely unacceptable to abolish self-governing units created after 2014. We call on the government to formulate its position clearly and not make such a decision, which will stop an initiated process of development” – is stated in the address.
