Discrimination of civil society organizations - disturbing tendency

Tbilisi. A report submitted by "International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy” (ISFED) today touches also upon attempts of the authorities and high officials to discredit civil society organizations.
"Attempts of high officials of the Government and heads of administrative bodies to discredit observer organizations and their unethical statements give the impression of especially disturbing tendency. ISFED has become an object of such an attack committed by Chairman of the Georgian National Communications Commission. Besides, following to the critical statement made by thirteen non-governmental organizations in regard to published recordings, Chairman of the Parliament, Minister of Justice, parliamentarians of "Georgian Dream”, Mayor of Tbilisi and the presidential candidate supported by "Georgian Dream” have also made statements to discredit them. Such a coordinated attack on non-governmental observer organizations in a pre-election period is a pressure put on non-governmental organizations by the authorities, attempt to restrict their activity and damage business reputation, which fact, in turn, represents a threat to democratic development of the state” - the document reads.
