300 Additional Public Officials will have their Asset Declarations Monitored in 2024

Tbilisi.Through TI Georgia’s efforts 300 additional public officials will have their asset declarations monitored in 2024. In previous years almost every second public official was fined for failure to fully disclose their assets. Declarations to be verified were selected by a special independent commission within the Civil Service Bureau. TI Georgia played an instrumental part in coordinating its creation. Why this is important: Declaration of assets and interests by public officials is one of the key mechanisms of preventing and identifying corruption. For years the declaration selection commission failed to form (it was created only once between 2018-2022), resulting in only half of the legally required number of declarations being verified (e.g. 300 instead of 600).
