Achara. On 6-13 August 2012,
the USAID program INRMW- Georgia organized an Eco-Camp in the Mtirala National
Park.
The goal of the Eco-Camp was to
raise awareness on wetlands of Georgia and the importance of endemic species of
flora and fauna for global biodiversity. Twenty-nine students from EcoClubs of
Telavi, Napareuli, Kistauri, Matani, Kvemo and Zemo Alvani public schools
became acquainted with protected areas of West Georgia by means of trekking
through various tourist paths and hearing lectures given by specially invited
guest-speakers.
At the closing ceremony of the
Eco-Camp, the INRMW Country Program Director granted 5 diplomas to the EcoClubs
for the best project proposals; the representatives of the Ministry of
Education and Science and the Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia awarded 15
students with certificates of Eco-trainers.
The
INRMW Program forwarded 7 TK2 microscopes, 4 mini-labs for field testing water
samples, and 5 eco-trainer bags to the EcoClubs in accordance with the merits
and thematic areas.
