Mtskheta-Mtianeti. During
August 12-19, 2012, a youth educational eco-camp was organized at the CENN
Bulachauri Green Center. The goal of the eco-camp was to increase the awareness
of participating children on issues of environmental protection, climate change
adaptation, as well as citizen participation in the activities of the local
government.
The participants of the eco-camp were
selected on the basis of a competition – "My
Green Initiative”, which was announced for alumni of previous CENN
eco-camps. To participate in the competition, the children were required to
submit entries presenting environmental initiatives that they had accomplished
after obtaining relevant knowledge at the eco-camps previously conducted by
CENN.
The participants of the eco-camp
included 20 children from the municipalities of Khelvachauri, Keda, Borjomi,
Akhaltsikhe, Sagrejo and Dedollistkaro. Besides lectures and seminars, an
excursion was arranged to visit the National Environmental Agency and the
Vashlijvari meteo station, where children became acquainted with the operation
of the modern system of weather forecasting. Moreover, a field trip was arranged
in the territories adjacent to Bulachauri.
The eco-camp was organized within the
scope of the "Climate Change
Adaptation and Natural Disaster Mitigation (CCADM)” project which CENN
is implementing with financial support from USAID in six municipalities of
Georgia.
