Tbilisi. The Georgian Democratic Initiative and the Georgian Institute of European Values released a special appeal towards the authorities concerning the draft Law of Georgia on the "Code of Local Self-Government", which the Government has approved.

"We find it necessary to send the draft Law for the expert opinion to relevant structures of the Council of Europe before the Parliament of Georgia approves the Code at the first hearing, to wait for the conclusion of the Council of Europe and duly take into account the respective recommendations. Prior to adopting the draft Law, we also find it necessary to make it the object of wide public scrutiny, as pursuant to the European Charter, the population has the final say in the process of formation of local democracy...", says the web page of the Democratic Initiative.
