Tbilisi. On 7 April 2014, the Government of Georgia initiated a draft law "On the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination” and related draft bills. According to the proposed Draft Law, the Public Defender of Georgia is the authority responsible for the supervision of the prohibition of discrimination.
"The Public Defender expresses its full readiness to carry out supervisory function on the issues concerning the elimination of discrimination and securing equality. According to the Constitution of Georgia, it is the Public Defender’s competence and obligation to supervise the human rights situation in the country. In this case, the Draft Law suggests a different approach and forms of authority, which will make the supervisory competence of the Public Defender more effective".
