Tbilisi. The Human Rights
Education and Monitoring Center has released a statement on the incident in
Kobuleti. "On September 10, the local residents in Kobuleti have protested
against the construction of a boarding house by the Muslim community and have
slaughtered a pig in front of the building entrance, while they have hanged the
cut-off head of the animal on the building door. ... Heads of the boarding
house were experiencing continued insult and obstruction of activities by the
specific/identifiable group, and there are clear elements of crime foreseen
under Article 156 of the Criminal Code (persecution), thus requiring timely and
effective investigation by the law-enforcement authorities. Further, to prevent
religious confrontation and conflict on the spot, the police must undertake
effective preventive measures", says the statement.
