The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) in Georgia opens call for project proposals, addressing the following focal areas in accordance to the County Programme Strategy:
** biodiversity conservation
** climate change
** international waters
** land degradation
** chemicals.
County Programme Strategy (attached) contains detailed information about SGP niches in country.
Along with the environmental benefits, funded projects should contribute to poverty reduction and livelihood improvement, empowerment and capacity development of local population, gender equality and women's empowerment.
Only legally registered community-based organizations (CBO) or non-governmental organizations (NGO) operating in country territory are eligible to apply1. The maximum grant amount per organization is US$50,000; project duration should not exceed two years. Main requirement of GEF is provision of 1:1 co-financing ratio (50% in cash and 50% in-kind) at the portfolio level.
At initial stage, interested organizations are requested to provide short project proposals/project concepts not exceeding 2 pages. Project concepts should contain information about: aim, objectives, expected results, planned expenditure, co-financing sources, project sustainability and implementation methodology; including, how the project can impact on global environmental benefits, locals' empowerment, gender equity and livelihood improvement. Please underline the thematic/focal area/s to which project will target and specifically, to which GEF objectives it will contribute to.
Each organization can submit no more than two project concepts either in Georgian or English
languages. Project concepts might be sent via email to ekatherinea@unops.org with cc to ana.shubitidze@undp.org or submitted in hard copy to the attention of GEF SGP Programme Associate at Str. Paliashvili 15, floor 4, no later than COB of 22 November, 2013. Late applications will not be considered.
Organizations will be notified about approval of project concepts and be given detailed instructions how to prepare full project proposal.
During the project concepts development phase, SGP Georgia office will provide weekly consultations with interested organizations in order to ensure project concepts being in line with GEF, global project document and country programme strategy requirements. Consultation will take place every Tuesday from 15:00 to 18:00 at Str. Paliashvili 15, floor 4. Please in advance register your participation by calling to Programme Associate.
