Tbilisi. Beginning 17 July 2013
the first road safety radio and TV program "Usaprtxo Modzraoba"
("Safe Driving”) will be broadcast on "FM Abkhazia," and later will
be seen on TV. The program will be dedicated to the challenges and development
of road safety in Georgia.
"Usaprtxo Modzraoba" will be prepared by the foundation
"Partnership for Road Safety" and radio "FM Abkhazia"
teams. Professionals in the field from Georgia and elsewhere will be
involved.
The topics of the program
will be chosen in response to news and current problems regarding road safety.
Statistical data, analysis and other relevant information will be introduced;
and major road safety risk factors, road safety education, first aid, safe
infrastructure, safe cars, pedestrian safety, speeding, drunk driving and other
road safety issues will be discussed. The program will have guests, live phone
calls, and questions and ideas from citizens, who can send them to Facebook for
review.
The main goal of
"Usaprtxo Modzraoba" is to increase road safety awareness and education
about major road safety risk factors and how to correct them, for the benefit
both of Georgian citizens and decision makers. "Usaprtxo Modzraoba"
will be on live FM Abkhazia 98.9 on Wednesday twice during the month. Details
concerning the TV version will be announced when available.

Tbilisi. Transparency International - Georgia released a statement - "Charges should not have been dropped against Bedukadze". "Vladimer Bedukadze was charged with an action recognized as one of the gravest crimes under Georgian legislation and international legal acts. Article 2 of the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment, clearly prohibits justification of torture in any form", says the statement.

Tbilisi. U.S. Embassy Tbilisi hosted an exhibition by the Union of the Blind. The exhibition provided members of the Union with the opportunity to tour the embassy and showcase their talents in an exhibit that included hand-made crafts, artwork, and musical performances. Among the art were works by artists who have been visually impaired their entire lives. The primary goals of the Union of the Blind in Georgia are to protect visually impaired people’s rights, to facilitate their integration into society, to raise awareness of issues facing blind people in Georgia, and to produce more opportunities for blind people.

"Xenophobic Statements and Assessments have grown to dangerous scale within the political discourse of Georgia, as well as media, and the results of numerous researches carried out with reference to the matter attest to that fact".

Tbilisi. The Human Rights Center was officially opened on June
3.The ceremony was opened by the Chairman of the Board of the
Human Rights House. The documentary film "house” was shown during the opening.

Kvemo Kartli. On June 3, "Sida" and
the United Nations signed a Memorandum on Cooperation. The Goal of the
Memorandum is to enhance mutual cooperation. After signing ceremony the meeting
of the older and younger friends from Tbilisi and Rustavi was held. They shared
an experience gained in different projects.

Adjara. On June 2, the Book Fair was opened in the City Press-Café.
In the frames of the Book Fair a variety
of newly published books will be sold with special discount. The exhibition
starts on June 2 and ends on June 7. During the Book Fair public discussions in

Tbilisi. Charity Humanitarian Centre "ABKHAZETI” (CHCA) has
released April Newsletter. Key topics of the edition are : Movie screening in
Tskaltubo public schools, CHCA is hosting new EVS volunteer, Homeowners’ and
Tenants’ Associations were established in IDP collective centers and
settlements, Presentation of the infrastructural projects in Tserovani IDP
settlement, From April CHCA began the implementation of the probationers’
rehabilitation projects, CHCA participated in the meeting on the topic of
"children in the Georgia’s justice system”, CHCA continues to support the
business activities of IDP and local vulnerable populations.

Adjara. On May 25, the discussion - "Photo-historical aspects of Georgia's independence" - was organized in the Batumi Press-Cafe in connection with Georgia's independence day. Further, on May 26, the personal photo-exhibition of Batumi's honorable citizen GizoChigogidze was organized on the territory of the Hero's Square (former Freedom Square), which displayed photo materials taken on Georgia's independence day in various years.
Adjara. On May 22, the Civil Society Institute
has organized another workshop in the Batumi Civic Engagement Center. This time
CSI has met with the local architects and representatives of the construction
companies. The meeting aimed to inform about the project and call on to
participate in it. Drafting of the strategic plan of Batumi's urban
development, which along with the invited experts involves local architects,
citizens and other interested persons, will be completed in May-August.
Tbilisi. The Soviet Past Research Laboratory has
published the oral stories: film N8, in which AlbinaDzneladze tells her story
of resettlement to Kazakhstan.
The story was recorded as part of the project of the Soviet
Past Research Laboratory "Free Access to Information and Justice".
The project is implemented with funding from the National Endowment for
Democracy (USA).

Tbilisi. On May13-18, trainings were delivered to the
community volunteer groups in Tsageri, Lentekhi, Oni and Ambrolauri as part of
the Disaster Risk Reduction Program of the Georgian Red Cross Society.
Trainings were delivered by the employees of the Emergencies Management
Department of the Center for Special and Emergency Measures of the Ministry of
Interior.Further, volunteer groups were given an opportunity
to get familiar on the spot with specifics of the fire-rescue and the emergency
situations management works. The evacuation exercises were carried out in the
public schools of above-listed towns.

Tbilisi. On May 15, the
conference organized by the Civil Society Institute was launched on the
"Financial sustainability of the civil society organizations". Up to
60 representatives of the capital-based and regional NGOs participate in the
conference. Georgian and foreign experts discuss the following issues:
international standards of financial sustainability of CSOs and the best
practices; legal regulation of financial sustainability of CSOs in Georgia;
fund raising and welfare activities; economic activities and social
entrepreneurship; public financing - social contracts and the state grants;
regulation of volunteering activities in Georgia.The conference aims to assist the Georgian CSOs in
identifying and using the legislative mechanisms, through which they will be
able to maintain financial sustainability.The two-day conference will be closed on May 16 and it is
implemented with the support of the East-West Management Institute, as part of
the "Public Policy, Advocacy and Civil Society Development in Georgia"
Program funded by the US Agency for International Development.
Tbilisi. The public lecture on "Social grounds of homophobia" was delivered in the Liberalism Education Center by the Executive Director of "Identity". At the end of the lecture Irakli Vacharadze has presented to the meeting participants the guide prepared by Identity for the journalists.
