Imereti. UNICEF and Kant's Academy continue the project "Act for Health", which is supported by USAID Georgia. Meetings with young people on modern understanding and importance of a healthy lifestyle and personal hygiene are being held in 5 regions of Georgia. This time the meeting was held in Chiatura, and was attended by 35 participants.  Similar trainings are planned within the project in Gori, Akhmeta, Marneuli and Akhaltsikhe municipalities. U.S. Embassy in Georgia Congratulates to Fulbright Graduate Student Program finalists: Goga Katalandze, Giorgi Gvasalia, Giorgi Revishvili, Ana Mikadze, Tea Natelauri, Mariam Latsabidze, Ana Sarukhanov, Salome Bakhsolian, and Natia Kantaria. Tbillisi. The Social Justice Center is representing Aida Balafkan's legal rights. Aida Balafkan, a British citizen on an academic visit to Georgia on April 26, 2022, was arbitrarily denied entry into the country by the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs. This Ministry decision is another example of allegedly discriminatory and arbitrary border crossing regulations. Imereti. Within the UNICEF and Helping Hand project supported by USAID Georgia, adolescents have established youth clubs in 63 municipalities of Georgia with the main goal of promoting hygiene issues and volunteering in local communities, as well as prevention of COVID-19 among adolescents.  On May 2, an educational event and exhibition was held in Kutaisi, the aim of which was to show the activities of the hygiene clubs established within the project. On May 3, within the framework of the Women's Economic Empowerment Project, the representatives of Taso Foundation donated books to a women's self-help group formed in the village of Ozurgeti, Ozurgeti Municipality. “Some of the books are from various editions of Taso Foundation Library, and some were sent to the women's group by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Georgia, Helene Sand Andresen, in support of their initiative to establish the first library in the village of Ozurgeti. The women's self-help Group intends to apply to the Director General of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, Giorgi Kekelidze, for support of the initiative and to enrich their library with books”. Samtskhe-Javakheti. UNICEF, in partnership with Media Development Foundation (MDF) and with the support of USAID Georgia is launching a series of media literacy trainings for children, young people and teachers. “The slogan of the campaign is “Do not get infected with misinformation!” and aims to provide young people with information and skills to enable them to identify, verify and disseminate their knowledge about misinformation about COVID-19. Tbilisi. A meeting on the rights situation of women and girls representing non-dominant ethnic groups in Georgia was held in cooperation with the Public Defender’s Office and the United National Population Fund (UNFPA) on April 28, 2022. Two special reports were presented at the event. “One report concerns sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls of ethnic minorities; the second report reviews the harmful practice of early/child marriage in Kvemo Kartli and key findings of the study of the relevant attitudes. The study showed that a number of social-cultural factors, primarily gender roles and sexuality-related stigma, often lead to the violation of sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls of non-dominant ethnic minorities. Guria. The Learning and employment support Centre on the basis of the Young Pedagogues' Union organized an informational campaign in Lanchkhuti and Chokhatauri municipalities. The aim of the campaign was to share information about the activities of the Centre with the residents of the cities. The aim of the Centre is to create new employment opportunities for job seekers by developing market-relevant skills and connecting mechanisms between employers and potential employees. Services of the Centre are completely free. The projects are implemented with the financial support of the European Union under the program Skills4jobs, organized by the Georgian Center for Strategic Research and Development (CSRDG), the United Nations Association of Georgia (UNAG) and the Georgian Open Society Foundation (OSGF). European Union in Georgia publishes the blogpost: Seventeen-year-old Samay against early marriage – young activist keeps on struggling for decent education and development of her peers. “Seventeen-year-old Samaia counts herself lucky that she isn't forced to get married young. She wants other girls to have the same opportunity to finish their school and pursue further education so, she became an activist to defend their rights. The first steps of her activism started at a training organised by one of our projects. Since then, she contributes to her community, and tries to be an example for other young women”. Tbilisi. UNDP and the UK Government help the Agency for State Care and Assistance for the (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking to expand its services for the wider community with a focus on women and underprivileged groups.  The results of the six-month initiative were discussed at the meeting on 15 April, bringing together the representatives from civil society, the donor community and experts. Kvemo-Kartli. A two-day training on “Ethical media coverage of women’s rights and LGBTQI issues” was held for media representatives in Marneuli. The training covered issues and topics such as gender equality on a workplace, gender-sensitive reporting, the sensitivity and responsibility of reporting on violence against women and LGBT people, definition of terms and gender-neutral vocabulary. The trainings are carried out by the Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics with support of UN Women within the framework of the project “Ending Violence against Women and Girls in Georgia”, implemented by UN Women and UNFPA with the support of the European Union. UNICEF welcomes the establishment of a Ukrainian language sector at Grushevsky Tbilisi Public School #41 to ensure the continuity of education for IDP children from Ukraine. “The students of the Ukrainian sector were visited by the Representative of UNICEF, Ghassan Khalil, and the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli. Samtskhe-Javakheti. The Practical training course for the joint volunteer teams of Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe municipalities was organized by the Emergency Management Service and the Georgia Red Cross Society On April 4-7. The fieldwork included hands-on exercises and was led by instructors from the Fire and Rescue Department. The activity was implemented with the support of the European Commission, the Austrian Red Cross, and the Austrian Development Cooperation within the framework of the project - "Strengthening the Civil Protection System through Capacity Building of Volunteers". The training was attended by journalists and civil activists from different regions of Georgia - a total of 16 participants. “Theoretical and practical training included tips and recommendations – detection of public procurement fraud, budget spending and oversight, extraction of knowledge from open government data, and more.
