Samthkhe-Javakheti. On June 8, in the village of Sviri, Akhaltsikhe Municipality, members of the Taso Foundation team conducted a training on the topic - “Self-Government - Essence, Structure and Competencies”. The training was aimed at raising awareness about the essence, structure and competencies of the self-government of new women's self-help groups in the villages of Boga and Sviri. On June 8, from 10:30 to 14:00, an employment forum will be held at the Ozurgeti Folklore Center in Guria. The aim of the forum is to facilitate the employment of young people, IDPs, people with no work experience, long-term unemployed and other vulnerable groups. Job seekers will have the opportunity to participate in the interactive Workshops on the topics: Readiness for work and volunteering. Up to 30 small and medium companies will present the existing vacancies for employment and internship at the forum. More than 300 job seekers will take part in the event and will have the opportunity to meet a potential employer, talk about the desired vacancy and demonstrate their skills through direct communication. Regions. In West Georgia, specifically in the Guria, Samegrelo and Imereti regions, the USAID YES-Georgia program visited local greenhouses, cafés, guest houses, flower shops, wine cellars, and artisan establishments to let women know about its entrepreneurship and soft skills training program. More than 60 women registered to participate in the training program. By 2024, USAID YES-Georgia aims to provide 2,600 women with greater access to quality education, training, and business development opportunities. Civil Society Organizations of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Region appeal to the Government of Georgia and the International Organisations Operating in Georgia. “We, representatives of the civil society organisations (CSOs) of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, condemn the Russian aggression in Ukraine. We support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in their struggle.    The Russian aggression endangers international peace, freedom, and values of democratic development. At the same time, it poses a threat to our region. In particular, this war has exposed the risks facing the Samtskhe-Javakheti region due to its economic, financial and informational dependence on Russia: Many people from this region have been living and working in Russia and financially supporting their families for years. Some of them used to go there for seasonal work. Moreover, Russia’s propaganda media outlets remain a central source of information for the region. We have pointed to these risks before. Nowadays, because of the sanctions imposed by the international community on Russia, the remittance flows from there are likely to sink and our population will most probably return to the region. Overall, the unemployment rate in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region will rise and the social background will deteriorate.  Based on the above-discussed, we, representatives of Samtskhe-Javakheti CSOs, call on the Government of Georgia and International Organisations operating in Georgia to take these risks into account, turn them into perspectives, and use this window of opportunity for the benefit of the local community”. Guria. The Learning and employment support Centre on the basis of the Young Pedagogues' Union organized an informational campaign in Lanchkhuti and Chokhatauri municipalities. The aim of the campaign was to share information about the activities of the Centre with the residents of the cities. The aim of the Centre is to create new employment opportunities for job seekers by developing market-relevant skills and connecting mechanisms between employers and potential employees. The Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) publishes a blog post about the Economic Growth Overview of Georgia for 20201. “In 2021, the Georgian economy surpassed the 2019 level by 3%, despite significant growth in foreign debt and high inflation. In 2020, the Covid-19 Pandemic had a negative impact on economic growth, in Georgia and in other countries. Despite the -6.8% decline in 2020, GDP increased by 3% in 2021 compared to 2019. External debt Increased by GEL 10.5 billion (+ 50%) in the last two years. Total inflation exceeded 15% in the same period. Georgia's economy is expected to grow by 6% in 2022[1].
