According to the Transparency International Georgia, a petition has been officially registered at Zugdidi City Council, advocating for the implementation of the "Municipal Pet Sterilization-Castration Program". The petition has garnered an impressive 710 signatures from concerned citizens. “The idea belongs to Salome Parsvania, a passionate animal lover from Zugdidi, the petition received support from members of our Committee of Concerned Citizens who assisted in its preparation and signature collection. The petition's objective is to establish a pet sterilization-castration program in Zugdidi municipality, commencing from the 2024 budget year. Notably, citizens would have free access to this program for the initial two years”. IDFFI made a statement about the Direction of Animal Welfare in Georgia. “The recent developments in Georgia have once again attracted public attention to the topic of animal care and welfare in Georgia. Tbilisi. At the initiative of the "Public Front for Animal Preservation", a rally was organized on April 4 advocating for animal protection. Rally participants have protested against new regulations adopted by the Tbilisi City Council, under which the owners are obligated to register domestic animals within 6 months and carry out repeated registration annually. Tbilisi. Transparency International - Georgia has released a statement in the social network. "On September 1 the Zugdidi City Hall has posted on its Facebook page about the stray dogs being caught and transferred to the Samtredia stray dog shelter. The isolation of dogs is carried out by individual entrepreneur Giorgi Maghlaperidze, whose activities were described by "Transparency International – Georgia" in a thorough study released in June. We have found that the shelter arranged by Giorgi Maghlaperidze in village Baileti of the Ozurgeti District is in a grave condition, while the caught dogs are being killed with cruel methods". The organization addresses the municipalities to raise relevant funds and start working on the arrangement of a shelter for the stray animals. SIQA has marked the World Animal Day on October 4 with an event, organized with active involvement of the civic clubs of the Rustavi schools, and joined by the Rustavi-based organization for animal protection. The schoolchildren have discussed the animals' rights and duties of humans together with the founders and members of organization for animal protection. "We express our concern over the fact that Georgia is not a party to the international conventions and other acts securing the rights of animals. Samegrelo. Transparency International – Georgia has released the blog-post – "Street dogs are killed with firearms in Zugdidi”. According to the organization, the population has provided to the Zugdidi Office mobile photos showing the employees of the "Zugdidi Cleaning” killing the street dogs. "Transparency International – Georgia recommends the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to develop a uniform approach towards the solution of this problem. We believe killing the dogs in the street is the most inhumane approach.
