Findings of the recent Eurobarometer survey show continued positive public perception for EU support to Ukraine among EU citizens.  The survey also shows that measures taken by the EU as a response to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine continue to get a robust support among citizens.  Read the press release See the survey

Tbilisi. In 2022, ASB Georgia, along with its partners, successfully implemented "UKR Cash Transfer Program", which aims to aid Ukrainian families in Georgia. In the period of September-December, total of 8,793 vouchers were distributed, which amounted to 2,066,355 Gel. Monthly cash vouchers addressed families’ immediate needs and targeted vulnerable groups: Persons with disability, families with elderly people, families with many children and single headed households. France. In annual report on the implementation of Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union approved last week in Strasbourg, the European Parliament raised the issue of weaponization of Soviet totalitarian history by the Russian disinformation in Georgia and backed work of the Soviet Past Research Laboratory. The report raises concern over the emergence of Joseph Stalin’s statues across Georgia that insult memory of millions of victims of Stalinist terror. Tbilisi. On December 16, IDFI with the financial support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) held the 4th international conference: The importance of openness of state archives in reevaluating the Soviet past and standing against propaganda. The conference focused on the manipulation of historical narratives, disinformation, preservation of archives in crisis and other important issues, the relevance of which was highlighted by the Russian war in Ukraine. Guria. On December 17, representatives of Taso Foundation visited the projects of the participants of the “Women's Economic Empowerment” program in the villages of Chokhatauri municipality: Buksieti, Bzholieti, Chkhakaura and Chokhatauri. Within the framework of the individual activities envisaged by the project, the women purchased the necessary equipment for their activities, organized work spaces. On December 13, IDFI held an international conference – Good Governance Forum 2022.  The Forum theme was - Accelerating Decentralization: Best Practices and Innovative Solutions.  The event aimed to explore global trends, good practices, needs for Eastern European countries, and innovative methods to deal with their challenges in developing democratic principles and implementing decentralization reforms at the local level.  Learn more… Source: idfi.ge

Tbilisi. On December 5-8, 2022, representatives of civil society organizations visited Brussels. The obligations assumed by the Association Agreement and the European Commission’s 12 recommendations were the two main subjects of the meetings with the EU institutions. Since 2014, various civil society organizations, led by the Open Society Georgia Foundation, have been monitoring the fulfillment of the responsibilities undertaken by Georgia under the Association Agreement and the Association Agenda and reporting the findings to the EU institutions. Within the framework of the visit, representatives of the civil society held meetings with representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, the EU External Action Service, the EU member states accredited in Brussels, the Office of the President of the European Council, and the think tanks. The meetings were focused on areas that are fundamental for the progress and development of the country, such as justice, the fight against corruption, media freedom, children’s rights, and other important issues. Kakheti. HUBs are regional platforms supporting the sharing of information, experience and opportunities. Particularly, the HUBs spread information about the project activities in the region, communicate with the local actors (CSOs, self-government, local business, media, volunteers, youth, and etc.) via consultation, networking, advocacy and monitoring, strengthens local CSOs, CBOs, civil activists and increase public awareness on their role and works. HUBs coordination meeting aims at discussing the project synergies and challenges, strategic overview of the STAR Consortium, and etc. STAR Initiative is funded by the European Union (EU) and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). Brussels. The director of GYLA's Democratic Institutions Support Program, Nanuka Kruashvili, held meetings with the representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European External Action Service as part of his visit to Brussels, Belgium. GYLA's representative spoke with international partners about the European integration and European perspective of Georgia, as well as obtaining the status of a candidate for the EU membership. The discussion also touched upon the reforms to be carried out in the fields of elections and judiciary that are necessary for Georgia's alignment with values and principles of the European Union. On November 24, 2022, IDFI and the e-Governance Academy (Estonia) held a presentation of project ideas that aim to resolve digital vulnerabilities in Georgia, prepared by several teams of non-governmental organizations. The following CSOs presented their action ideas to resolve various digital vulnerabilities in Georgia: National Cybersecurity Association – Georgia, Data Analysis Laboratory LLC, Innovative Education Foundation / Ilia State University, Civil Society Institute (CSI), Green Alternative, Sapari, Access Foundation, Telecom Operators Association, Parents for Education, and Georgia’s Reforms Associate (GRASS). One of the selected proposals will have a chance to receive financial support to implement it.
