Tbilisi. On May 19, Georgia’s Responsible Business Awards Meliora 2020 will be conducted in an online format. This year the Contest is intended to take place in a special format and companies will be awarded for those projects and initiatives, which they have implemented to fight against the COVID pandemic within the framework of their corporate social responsibility (CSR). “At the award ceremony, companies will be awarded for projects they have implemented to overcome the crisis caused by the pandemic, while categories are going to be as follows: supporting employees, supporting clients, customers, and suppliers, supporting society and local communities, as well as supporting SMEs and most suffered industries. On January 28-29, 2021 the CSO National Forum was held in the online format. The forum brought together up to 200 representatives of civil society and other sectors from all the regions of Georgia but also from the Eastern Partnership countries. The main focus of the forum was the role of Civil Society in promoting reforms and the challenges they face. The conference was welcomed by a representative of the EU Delegation to Georgia, Ms. Dominika Skubida. She underlined the importance of civil society as a partner in promoting reforms: “I have had the privilege to observe the development of the civil society in Georgia during the last four years. I am pleased to see how active and diverse civil society has become, especially in the regions.” In the opening panel, representatives of the Georgian Civil Society Sustainability Initiative presented key results of this four-year-long EU support program in areas such as diversification of funding sources with emphasis on state funding available for CSOs, increased cooperation between civil society and businesses in the framework of the CSR activities of the later, empowering of the youth as civic activists and promoting work of CSOs through the campaign ‘This Country is Yours’. The panel was followed by a discussion among participants about the role and challenges of civil society in the regions of Georgia. During the last panel, international experts presented their views about the current situation in civil society across the Eastern Partnership region. Zemo-Svaneti. Within the funded project “Let’s Clean Svaneti Together!”, Upper Svaneti Local Action Group (LAG Upper Svaneti) held clean up campaigns in the communities of Mestia municipality: Nakra, Mulakhi Tsvirmi, Kala and Ipari on November 10 and 11. Two waste bins and information boards were installed on each location. ““Let’s Clean Svaneti Together!” – is one of the winning initiatives of the Contest for Volunteering Initiatives announced by the Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC). Tbilisi. “Bloggers from Zemo Racha” is one of the volunteer initiatives that won the "Ideas Competition for Voluntary Initiatives" announced by the Center for Education Development and Employment (EDEC) in the frameworks of the program “Georgian Civil Society Sustainability Initiative”. Within the initiative, the initiative group from Upper Racha invites young people from Oni municipality aged 15-18 to take part in a program “Bloggers from Upper Racha”. The program aims to assist vulnerable groups, promote their integration into society, support formal and non-formal education, address local community issues, and promote volunteering”. The Network of Centers for Civic Engagement, within the framework of the “Civil Society Sustainability Initiative” project and with the support of the CSI, has prepared a Monitoring of state grants issued in 2018. “The present study appraises effectiveness of a state grant funding process, its stages and general principles. On the one hand, the focus is on certain rules of legislation, as to what form, stages and criteria are used by public institutions to administer grant competitions through budgetary funds, while on the other hand, there is carried out a survey of practical experiences of bidder and grant recipient organizations, thus allowing to use jointly obtained information in order to elaborate recommendations about how the mentioned process can be improved”. Tbilisi. On November 1, 2020, within the “Georgian Civil Society Sustainability Initiative” project and with the support of the Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC), Caucasus Cycling Network held a cycling competition “Zhinvali XC Adventure 2020” in Dusheti Municipality. The competition aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage volunteering. In order to encourage volunteering, 10 volunteers from Dusheti Municipality were in charge of event management solving organizational issues throughout the competition. “Zhinvali XC Adventure 2020” is one of the winning initiatives of the Contest for Volunteering Initiatives announced by the Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC). The Contest for Volunteering Initiatives is implemented within the ”Georgian Civil Society Sustainability Initiative” project.
