Institute for Development of Freedom of Information shares a handbook on Open Local Government and Public Ethics. “The guide includes information on rules of ethics in public service, accountability, transparency and citizen participation mechanisms, reviews relevant local legislation, institutional mechanisms and good practice. Tbilisi. UNDP and the UK Government help the Agency for State Care and Assistance for the (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking to expand its services for the wider community with a focus on women and underprivileged groups.  The results of the six-month initiative were discussed at the meeting on 15 April, bringing together the representatives from civil society, the donor community and experts. Georgian non-governmental organizations ask the EU questionnaire and answers to be made public. “We, the signatory organizations, believe that the process of joining the European Union should be open, transparent, and inclusive. It is important to ensure the involvement of civil society in it. We would like to stress that civil society has valuable experience in assessing the current state of justice, the fight against corruption, and human rights in Georgia (Chapter 23 of the EU accession negotiations) using a similar questionnaire (see evaluation document https://bit.ly/3LUEYyh ). With this in mind, we wish to ask you to make the questionnaire submitted to Georgia and the provided answers public, in order to enable all the stakeholders to be involved in the process and contribute to the path of European integration”, is noted in the joint statement. Shida Kartli. On April 6, 2022, a meeting of Youth Club’s members was held with the representatives of the youth civil society and community organizations. During the meeting there was a discussion on the topic: what kind of problems youth organizations have and how we are going to solve the problems. The meeting was held in the framework of the project “Civil Society STAR Initiative: CSOs as Sustainable, Transparent, Accountable and Resilient Development Actors in Georgia“ (2021-2025). Tbilisi. On April 1-3, IDFI conducted a two-day training on effective oversight and data extraction methods. The training was attended by journalists and civil activists from different regions of Georgia - a total of 16 participants. “Theoretical and practical training included tips and recommendations – detection of public procurement fraud, budget spending and oversight, extraction of knowledge from open government data, and more. Furthermore, participants had the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information on vital issues in the context of the transparency of Beneficial ownership, as well as familiarize themselves with international platforms for investigative/data journalists and watchdogs”. Adjara. The Supreme Council of the Ajara Autonomous Republic launched a new online platform for citizen engagement. The platform provides various digital services, including submitting a petition to the Council, commenting on draft laws, scheduling an appointment with a Council member and requesting a pass to attend the Council sessions. Fully adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, the platform is the most inclusive web resource of all public websites in Georgia. The digital platform has been created as part of the open governance agenda pursued by the Supreme Council of the Ajara Autonomous Republic. Along with this, now there is a historic opportunity for Georgia to realize a dear wish of many generations to become a full-fledged member of the Western world, as indicated in our Constitution. The Social Justice Center publishes the statement: Georgia falling short of its obligations regarding the judicial reform under the EU Association Agenda. “On March 3, during the numerous protests in Tbilisi, alongside Ukraine the Georgian government issued an official request of membership to the European Union. However, a mere application cannot be a guarantee of success. Among the obligations under the Association Agreement, the thematic direction of the rule of law, in particular the reform of the judiciary has a vital place. Review of the EU membership application is a complex and lengthy process, which examines the state of fulfillment of the country's international obligations and unwavering respect for the core values of the organization. Despite the statement made, the recent developments in EU-Georgia relations show that the Georgian government is not committed to its stated goals of EU membership, which is primarily reflected in the non-fulfillment of the Association Agenda adopted in 2014. The implementation of the Association Agenda is crucial for Georgia's progress in building democracy, strengthening its institutions and integrating with European structures”, is noted in the statement. The signatory organizations call on the Georgian authorities to instigate a comprehensive policy to ensure organized reception of refugees from Ukraine and bona fide support of refugees already in Georgia. “The trend of Ukrainian refugees entering Georgia may also be discerned. According to our observations, after the start of the war, asylum seekers in Georgia are mainly those Ukrainians who have relatives, family, or other strong ties with Georgia. Despite this reality, it is clear that the Georgian authorities have not taken proactive steps to organize the evacuation of refugees from Ukraine and to provide them with proper and real support in Georgia. Moreover, thousands of Ukrainian tourists, who were unable to return to Ukraine due to the war that started on February 24, 2022, remain in Georgia, and they also face the need for urgent social support”, is noted in the joint statement.
