Taso Foundation is visiting target villages as part of the Women’s Economic Empowerment project. On March 4, the Foundation held a working meeting in Ergneti. The meeting was attended by women living in the villages of Ergneti and Brotsleti. Georgian Civil Society organizations and citizens issued an open appeal to the leaders of the European Union (EU) and the Heads of the Governments of the EU member states. “The Georgian people are fully in solidarity with Ukraine in their fight for independence and European aspiration. We strongly believe that the European Union and Member states should treat the Eastern Partnership region’s Trio – Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova, as one whole inseparable region, facing common problems related to Russia’s aggression, occupation, and annexation. Georgian Civil Society organizations release a statement regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “In the wake of Russia's gross violation of international law, its attack on Ukraine and its use of deadly weapons against civilians, the Georgian Prime Minister has announced that he does not intend for Georgia to join the financial and economic sanctions imposed on Russia. Also, the ruling party rejected an extraordinary session of parliament on the issue of Ukraine. The signatory organizations unequivocally oppose and condemn the Prime Minister's statement, as it does not express the spirit of the Georgian nation, does not serve its interests and cannot be justified by the so-called Russia’s non-irritation policy”. Transparency International Georgia and International society of Fair Election call upon the Parliament of Georgia not to support the early termination of powers and decide the issue on the basis of the country’s interests and political expediency. “We also call on the Parliament of Georgia to start deliberating on the possibility of restoring the so-called withdrawn lists by parties, which will help avoid a political crisis. The existing reality also shows that the practice of withdrawing the lists is problematic and poses a danger of abolishing seats in the Parliament, decreasing the number of MPs in the 150-member legislative body, and the ineffectiveness of the Parliament”.
