Samtskhe-Javakheti. On October 2, in Borjomi, GCSD, within the framework of the project Vaccination4Georgia, organized a training for local media representatives of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region on the topic: “How to identify and address disinformation and promote vaccination”.  The training module envisaged the specifics of the local media working and addressed the main challenges they face in the process of covering topic of vaccination. The training was conducted by Natia Kuprashvili, the head of the Journalism Resource Center. The project “Vaccination4Georgia” is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with  Georgian Center for Strategy and Development. As public is aware, on November 16, 2021, the Public Defender of Georgia, by order No. 157,[1] set up a group of specialists/experts in order to assess the adequacy and timeliness of the medical services provided to accused/convicted Mikheil Saakashvili. In accordance with the mandate of the Public Defender of Georgia, the goal of the group of experts, since its creation, has been to monitor the medical services provided to the patient. The group has not been involved in the treatment of the patient. Since information about the significant worsening of Mikheil Saakashvili's health condition has been actively disseminated in the recent period, the Public Defender decided to carry out another monitoring. Accordingly, on December 4, 2022, four experts arrived at the VivaMedi clinic in order to personally examine Mikheil Saakashvili and check the relevant medical materials, and on December 5, in order to obtain additional detailed information on specific issues, one of the representatives of the expert group met with Mikheil Saakashvili’s doctor at VivaMedi. The purpose of the visits on December 4-5 was to evaluate and describe the patient's condition, complaints and symptoms, as well as to assess the dynamics in relation to the previous visits, within the competence and capabilities of the Public Defender's group of experts. According to the monitoring: After the last assessment (27.04.2022), the patient's condition has deteriorated sharply and should be assessed as severe; Deterioration in neurological status, worsening of anemia, anorexia and gastrointestinal processes are observed. Guria. During the period of 2021-2022 within the joint project of USAID and UNICEF "Preventing and Responding to COVID-19 in Georgia":. 32 schools and 4 hospitals in Guria region have safe drinking water thanks to installation of water filtration equipment in partnership with Shalom Club Guria. Up to 5,000 students and teachers and 7,000 patients of the primary health care clinic benefited from the safe water in these facilities.  38,234 adolescents and youth reached with messages on safe hygiene practices, COVID-19 prevention measures and safe water and sanitation, in partnership with Helping Hand, Adjara Organization of Scouts Movement, Civil Society Development Center and Kant’s Academy.  Find out more… Source: The organization’s page on the social network

During the period of 2021-2022 within the joint project of USAID and UNICEF "Preventing and Responding to COVID-19 in Georgia" over 400,000 teachers and school personnel, healthcare workers, religious leaders, parents, and children were reached with information on COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination in partnership with ჰელფინგ ჰენდ  (Helping Hand) and the AIVA • Association of Immunization and Vaccinology. The interventions contributed to increasing the rate of vaccinated teachers from 9 per cent in August 2021 to over 76 per cent as of early 2022. It's a day to recognize those with cerebral palsy (CP) and their families. “Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect coordination and muscle tone/posture. It's caused by damage that occurs to the brain as it develops, most often before birth. Cerebral palsy's effect on function varies greatly. Some affected people can walk; others need assistance. Tbilisi. On September 24-26 the training in stress management was conducted for the staff of the Anti-Violence Network of Georgia with the support of Civil Rights Defenders. For three days the time spent in an informal and friendly environment helped them to acquire positive emotions, relax and equip with the relevant knowledge. On June 1-3 2022, the relatives of the beneficiaries together with a psychologist and a social worker of Caritas Georgia Health Care program traveled to Ikalto, Kakheti region. Caritas Georgia Health Care Program offers the family members and the relatives of the Home Care program beneficiaries environment for recreation. During their stay in Ikalto, informational meetings on the Behavior Management and Social and Health Care Programs as well as the programs and activities conducted by CG Health Care program were held for the family members of the beneficiaries. Imereti. UNICEF and Kant's Academy continue the project "Act for Health", which is supported by USAID Georgia. Meetings with young people on modern understanding and importance of a healthy lifestyle and personal hygiene are being held in 5 regions of Georgia. This time the meeting was held in Chiatura, and was attended by 35 participants.  Similar trainings are planned within the project in Gori, Akhmeta, Marneuli and Akhaltsikhe municipalities. In Batumi, on May 5, 2022, the disabled peoples’ organizations Changes for Equal Rights and the Coalition for Independent Living in frames of the EU-funded project Civil Society for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Georgia hosted a panel discussion aiming at marking the European Independent Living Day. “The theme of event was Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities, Challenges and Support Services. The meeting brought together disabled activists and leaders from the Independent Living Centers to discuss the challenges persons with disabilities face and to learn more about the services the centers provide to them”. Within the UNICEF and Helping Hand project supported by USAID Georgia, adolescents have established youth clubs in 63 municipalities of Georgia with the main goal of promoting hygiene issues and volunteering in local communities, as well as prevention of COVID-19 among adolescents.  On May 2, an educational event and exhibition was held in Kutaisi, the aim of which was to show the activities of the hygiene clubs established within the project. Civil Society Organizations respond to the ongoing events associated with the deteriorating health of the imprisoned third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili. “We believe that an urgent decision must be made to ensure proper treatment for him, including the provision of medical care abroad. We would like to remind the public that according to the conclusion of the alternative medical council created under the auspices of the Public Defender of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili’s health condition has deteriorated. He suffers from serious physical and psychological health problems linked to anorexia and post-traumatic stress disorder. Accordingly, the prisoner should be immediately provided with proper medical care. Any further decisions should exclude considerations of political expediency. Instead, the relevant institutions should be guided only by the standard of protection of the right to life, health, and personal safety. In view of the above, we demand that the third president of Georgia be immediately provided with the medical services necessary to ensure his fundamental rights to life and health, which the state is legally obliged to protect under constitutional and international law”. Tbilisi. On April 18, 2022, the Public Defender of Georgia presented a special report assessing the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on children’s rights and the measures taken by the State. The report was prepared with the support of the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (UNICEF ECARO), the UNICEF Georgia Office and the European Network of Ombudspersonsfor Children (ENOC). Transparency International Georgia assessed parliamentary oversight of the Government's performance related to the management of the pandemic during the period between 21 March 2020 and 31 December 2021, and the results of the decision to delegate power restricting fundamental human rights from the legislature to the Government. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Parliament of Georgia failed to carry out effective control of the Government’s performance.
