Tbilisi. On April 18, 2022, the Public Defender of Georgia presented a special report assessing the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on children’s rights and the measures taken by the State. The report was prepared with the support of the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (UNICEF ECARO), the UNICEF Georgia Office and the European Network of Ombudspersonsfor Children (ENOC). Guria. The Learning and employment support Centre on the basis of the Young Pedagogues' Union organized an informational campaign in Lanchkhuti and Chokhatauri municipalities. The aim of the campaign was to share information about the activities of the Centre with the residents of the cities. The aim of the Centre is to create new employment opportunities for job seekers by developing market-relevant skills and connecting mechanisms between employers and potential employees. The signatory non-governmental organizations, give a critical assessment to the draft amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code that were initiated by members of the parliamentary majority. “The draft law makes it possible to wiretap citizens for an indefinite period in the event of an ongoing investigation under a number of articles of the Criminal Code without notifying them of the fact of wiretapping. Whereas there is no effective statutory mechanism for control, the proposed amendments substantively deteriorate the standard of protection of private life and make it possible for investigative agencies to wiretap citizens for an indefinite period”, is noted in the statement. On April 15, the Foundation held a working meeting the village of Utsera of Oni Municipality. The meeting was dedicated to discussing project details, identifying local needs and planning future activities. European Union in Georgia publishes the blogpost: Seventeen-year-old Samay against early marriage – young activist keeps on struggling for decent education and development of her peers. “Seventeen-year-old Samaia counts herself lucky that she isn't forced to get married young. She wants other girls to have the same opportunity to finish their school and pursue further education so, she became an activist to defend their rights. The first steps of her activism started at a training organised by one of our projects. Since then, she contributes to her community, and tries to be an example for other young women”. UNDP and the UK Government help the Agency for State Care and Assistance for the (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking to expand its services for the wider community with a focus on women and underprivileged groups.  The results of the six-month initiative were discussed at the meeting on 15 April, bringing together the representatives from civil society, the donor community and experts. The Coalition for an Independent and Transparent Judiciary comments on the working group set up in the Parliament of Georgia on judicial reform. “It is unfortunate that information about the working group format is closed to the public. Local NGOs working on justice issues, international missions and other stakeholders are not invited to participate in the group, therefore, the process is non-inclusive. The ruling party has so far not recognized the main challenge in the judiciary, the existence of an influential group of judges; hence, the reforms carried out so far have been mainly fragmentary and have dealt with procedural issues.
