On October 29 2021, Fellows Giorgi Badridze and Giorgi Bilanishvili conducted lectures for youth in Zarzma. “The covered topic included - "Georgia's Foreign Policy Priorities, as well as, "Russia and Georgia". The project is implemented by Rondeli Foundation in partnership with "Zarzma's children academy" and with the support of Zarzma monastery. Educational project focuses on different aspects, which includes mathematical knowledge and skill development in accordance with specially designed program, as well as discussion of current topics concerning civil education and national security”. The participants of the workshop held within the joint academic program of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and the University of Georgia (UG) were awarded with the certificates. “The short-term, skills-oriented practical course: "What is disinformation and what can I do about it?" was held daily during the week of October 25-29. The participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the strategies of disinformation verification, modern ways of disseminating disinformation and discuss the ways of contributing to debunking disinformation by journalists and civilians”. According to information released by the United Nations Children’s Fund, more than 1500 adolescents from 14 to 17 years of age from public schools across Georgia, their parents and teachers will benefit from a new initiative led by the organization in collaboration with “Gambling Research and Ludomania Prevention Center” as well as with the Ministry of Education and Science. "The purpose of the initiative is to prevent the onset of at-risk gambling behavior and maintain adolescents at the healthy end of the continuum through face to face training sessions, public events and social media”. Tbilisi. 60 volunteers will become companions for the elderly. “Mestumre will last for six months and will involve beneficiaries from eight elderly houses around Georgia. The volunteers will receive extensive training from MAC Georgia's Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, and Special Education Coordinator over the course of a month. The training will provide the volunteers with all of the necessary skills to ensure that their interactions with the elderly are both pleasant and efficient during the project”. Kaori Ishikawa, the UN Women Country Representative in Georgia, met in Ozurgeti with the representatives of the Association of Georgian Girl Scouts “Dia” and their partner organization in Guria. “With UN Women support, the Association of Georgian Girl Scouts Dia is implementing the training on violence in Guria, Kvemo Kartli and Tbilisi. The sessions are covering the issues of sexual abuse, bullying, early and forced marriage, family violence and more. According to information released by Social Justice Center, deprivation of the right of ethnic Georgians to receive education in their own language in Gali took the most severe forms. “Restriction of studies in the native language for Georgian schoolchildren in the Gali district is a problem not only by cause of its discriminatory and assimilative content but also in terms of development of pupils and young people. Due to the fact that schoolchildren speak Megrelian or Georgian at home, while study all subjects in Russian and learn Abkhazian along with foreign languages at school, they cannot speak any of those languages fluently as a result”. Tolerance and Diversity Institute (TDI) has completed a three-year project - “Fostering Religious Tolerance and Cultural Diversity in Public Schools of Georgia” implemented from September 2018 with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Georgia. On August 2-7, 2021, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and State Inspector's Service held the joint summer school on personal data protection. “Third- and fourth-year students, also master students of the School of Law of Authorized Universities in Georgia, attended the summer school.188 candidates participated in the competition, of which IDFI and the State Inspector's Office selected 20 students based on pre-defined evaluation criteria and interviews. Public Defender assesses refusal of reappointment of school principal as discrimination on political grounds. “The applicant had been working as a principal of one of the public schools in the Mtskheta municipality since 15 October 2014. In October 2020, she was not reappointed as acting principal and was replaced by another person. In the applicant's view, the refusal of the Ministry of Education to reappoint her was conditioned by the political activity of her husband and son, who were supporters of an opposition party. According to the Public Defender, given the increased risks of politicization of the education system and dismissal of persons on discriminatory grounds, the fact that the refusal of reappointment of the applicant coincided with the political activity of her spouse and son raises suspicions. Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) sums up the second year of the Educational Certification Program in Fighting Corruption. “In 2021, the second academic year of the Educational Certification Program in Fighting Corruption has finished. The Program was implemented as part of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the Ilia State University. Within the scopes of the Certification Program two academic courses were offered on the Bachelor’s Degree, and two academic courses were offered on the Master’s Degree for students and the program participants who were selected via competition from other universities, different public, non-governmental and private sectors”. According to the assessment made by the organization: “Current value of losses caused by disruption of the learning process to the economy of Georgia is about GEL 55 billion. In 2020, 11% of teachers and students did not benefit from TEAMS, a distance learning program, at all. Despite risks of the COVID pandemic, 75% of students living in rural areas, while just 46% of those residing in cities returned to classrooms. According to our estimates, up to GEL 100 million is needed to provide computers and internet to socially vulnerable families in order to make sure they have access to the distance learning platform”...
